08/2004: First interior upgrade - painted living room, dining room, and bordered kitchen
8/2004: With (major) help from Goody and Larry, we now have some color in our living room (1, 2), dining room (1, 2), and a border around the top of the kitchen (1, 2).
4/2004 update: We have been in the home for about 1.5 years now. Here are six photos of the interior with the amount of decorating we have done so far: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Major furniture purchases are complete. Painting projects and art work are in progress.
1/05 update: Having had two days of unpacking and cleaning before taking pictures the house looks finished except for the dining room. The best rooms (with new furniture) are the library (1, 2), master bedroom, and entertainment room. The living room has our couch set from Boston. The master bath and kitchen (1, 2) are unpacked (no fridge for kitchen yet). The guest rooms are ready (1, 2), come visit!
12/31 update: Getting to this post move-in makes it feel slightly anticlimatic. Shots around the house show final landscaping (1, 2, 3, 4). Inside shots contrast to the shots from 1/05 post move-in: front entry, kitchen (1, 2).
12/28 update: Not much new to show. Each room has a few minor elements to fix, mostly marks on walls. The area around the fireplace has been cleaned up on both the living room and kitchen sides. This could be the last update before moving day -- Friday.
12/22 mini update: Went to house with Doug to install speaker outlets. Spent my time taking panoramic shots of living room and the entry.
12/20 update: While it is difficult to see because of the protective covers, the floors (hardwood, tile, carpet) have been installed throughout the house. The first floor bath, guest bath 1, and master bath are nearing completion. The floor and counters are great. Bethany is looking rather pleased about it. The bookshelves are almost completely installed in the library, and the kitchen shelves and countertops are mostly in place (1, 2, 3). The front is largely complete. Hay lawns are very chic in Charlottesville.
12/14 upate: With stacks of strip oak in the living room, we are anticipating that the floor will be installed next week. The stairs have been uncovered making the entry look almost complete. Most dramatically, the kitchen (1, 2, 3) has the cabinets partially installed. (The first picture shows a phone table in the corner.) Also, the library bookshelves are being installed, and the bathroom floor and cabinets (1, 2) are partly finished. Three weeks to go!
12/07 update: The first real snowfall in 2 years shows how white the front and side of the house can be. Inside shots show progress in the installation of lights and painting in the dining room, family room, and entry. A panoramic shot of the entry is most amazing compared to the same shot on 11/02 and 9/21. The front, entry, and side progression pages illustrate a lot of changes over the past 3 months.
11/27 update: The front view and the side view show progress in completing the front porch. Also, notice on the side view that the big pile of dirt on the left side of the house has been graded and fills in the front and side of the house. Inside, a first coat of paint on the walls makes the place look much more complete than the previous shots, see from the front door, the stairs, and looking down into the entry.
11/21 update: Two shots show the installation of the front porch from the front and side. Inside shows installation of moulding in the entry and on the stairs. Kitchen shots show some moulding work and the triple door with dormer exiting to the deck.
11/14 update: Best shot of day is panoramic of family room looking back toward entry. Other shots include front view, side view, and a new deck shot.
11/09 update: Not much new to see. Last week's shots capture the most significant changes. The front shot is nearly identical, but the side view does show a bit of the new deck. The guys were actually there working on it this morning. Inside, you can see that the walls are more finished with a view from the front door, and one from the entertainment room looking into the family room. The best sense of change from last week can be seen with the progression page from the front door.
11/02 update: Inside the house, one gets the feeling now that it is actually a house rather than a pile of well-organized wood. Bethany is enjoying the shower in the master bathroom, and the view from the kitchen to the deck is looking close to how it will look upon completion. From outside, the house looks even more like a real house, though the side shot doesn't look much different. Here are some great panoramic shots of the master bath, master bedroom, entry from above, family room, and a poorly done shot of the entry (unfortunate since it is the most interesting view).
10/26 update: From the front and side the house is looking nearly complete. Brick work on the side is in, as is most of the siding, and all doors and windows have been installed. The deck in back has started (see also a side view). Inside, electrical and duct work is nearly complete and the dry wall is ready to go up. Finally, the master bathtub is feeling good.
10/20 update: Shots from today include the first pictures upstairs including the master bath and a panoramic of the master bedroom. From the upstairs hallway you can look into the master bedroom, down toward the dining room, and down toward the library. Back downstairs are two panoramics looking in from the entry (left is library, right is dining room), and from hallway into living room (left is entertainment room, center is living room, right is fireplace and kitchen behind). Outside has two nice shots of siding going up from the side and from the back. Dry wall installation begins on Thursday.
10/15 update: I got to the site in the evening, so the pictures are rather dark. The front view shows a new porch and a relatively complete first layer for the roof. The front door view shows the stairwell and the beginnings of the arches in the entry. Additional shots of side and back don't add much.
10/05 update: Only small change since 10/02, but the front now offers a full view of the house, and the back offers a partial view of Bethany.
10/02 update: Changes are not as dramatic looking as previous two updates, but the house frame is certainly looking more complete (front shot; right-side back; left-side front). Putting part of the roof up changes the look of the entry, as do windows in the back. See new progression pages below.
9/28 update: Despite two days of heavy rain during the week, changes between 9/21 and 9/28 are very noticeable, mostly because there is a second floor (front shot; side shot) whereas before there was only one. It only looks slightly different from last week's panoramic shot from the entry, until you pan up looking toward the front door. The panoramic shot of the back shows where the doors will be from the kitchen on the left leading out to a deck. The siding for the neighbor's house is finished.
9/21 update: Progress between 9/15 and 9/21 has been substantial. See the whole front view, and panoramic shots of the kitchen and entry (left to right: library, living room, dining room). Other shots include an extra rear shot, a shot of the basement, three shots of the living room (1 - looking into entertainment room; 2 - looking toward fireplace and kitchen; 3 - straight out the back), and an update of the neighbor's house.
